Essie Luxeffects for Holiday 2011

Essie has introduced their latest collection, Luxeffects for Holiday 2011.  It adds that extra sparkle for the holiday and is fun to just experiment with. It gives shimmer, and glitter in a shiny lacquer that you can wear alone or over your favorite Essie colors. Last night I experimented with Essie's Power Clutch and Set in Stones ( a new luxeffect)

Two colors I thought would look perfect with the Set in Stones Luxeffect - Neo Whimsical (left) and Power Clutch (right)

Yes, at the moment I am in desperate need of a professional mani

Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping Beauty

I admit I am guilty of wearing an old tee shirt and boxers to bed but I'm trying to wear something a little more luxe this year. Nothing is better than a cozy long sleeve thermal and plaid pajama pants. I did a little digging and found amazing pajamas to wear this winter season or to give as a gift. I absolutely love the  Burberry Brit Waffle Knit Robe and the Va Va Flat Heel Shoes (perfect to wear christmas morning!)

Well this season we compiled a bunch of items from Madewell to look ultra cozy and chic for an affordable price. Metallic Ornaments

Metallic Ornaments

This year we decided to change up the normal holiday colors and decorate the tree a little more chic. We are obsessing over mercury and metallics and have come across a huge assortment of fun ornaments to decorate the tree this year. No more red & green hand made cookie ornaments from school, we are going metallic! You can find most of these at Crate & Barrel, Nordstrom's, Anthropologie, Pottery Barn, Bloomingdale's & One King's Lane. As you can see we love football and pups so try something different and just have fun decorating! xx

DIY: Holiday Centerpiece - Roses & Cabbage & Berries

This is a great centerpiece for the holidays since we incorporated white roses, cabbage, red and green berries as well as cranberries to fill up the vases. Round or square look great but the cranberries add the extra wow factor to the arrangement. Take a look below!

De-leaf & cut the roses & berries the day before & store in buckets of water in a cool, dark space.

Fill your vase with cranberries. We recommend filling the vase with the cranberries then adding the water. It is easier to put in the flowers.

Place your cabbage in the center if you are using just one. If using two, they can be placed off center. Trim cabbage as well.

After cabbage is centered, add the roses. Trim your roses again but be careful to not have them taller than the cabbage.

After adding the roses, add three sprigs of berries. Place in filler areas.

Roses - Cabbage & Berry arrangement!

We used both square and round vases.

Holiday Hurricane with cranberries.

We got a little carried away with making arrangements but the flowers do go great with the hurricanes!

And our furry friend piper makes a perfect christmas card!

The Braid

This is a slightly dressier braid..Blake's hair is slicked back and the braid is positioned higher giving her a more polished look.

A braid you don't see too often is the Fishtail Braid. Its a fun way to change up the traditional braid but takes a little more time to create!

For longer hair, a simple side swept braid is an easy way to pull back your hair still giving you that "I'm not trying but I really did try" look. If a few strands dont make it into the braid, dont worry..that's the whole point, the side swept is supposed to be messy!

This is another fun way to wear your hair up for an event or if you just want it out of your face. Tightly braid each side or just one side and pull the rest into a messy bun.

I added this braid picture to show that you can still create the messy side swept braid, even  if you dont have long amazing thick hair. Kate Bosworth has thin hair like I do and she pulls off this soft look perfectly!

Another way to dress up the braid is to tease your crown and wear it like Rachel with a ton of volume. Her strands are more controlled giving her a sexy volumous style.

I love the braid, it can be both sexy and feminine. You can wear it in a couple different styles.. high up, down low, messy, sleek or to the side. It's a really creative and easy way to style your hair. Try the traditional criss cross or fishtail and just experiment. There really is no right or wrong to creating a braided look!

The Dining Room

I figured I would do a post about the Dining Room, since tomorrow is Thanksgiving and we will be spending a good chunk of the day in this particular room. The two pictures above are my absolute favorite dining rooms. They both burst with color and have very cool light fixtures, nothing like your traditional chandelier. A dining room should be a comfortable room where you can host guests and have a fun conversational meal. Anything too fancy could give off a stuffy vibe and you want something a little more inviting.

The first dining room flaunts the color purple (my favorite) and pairs it with a warm grey and gold. This may be a little trendier for some people but its a fun way to incorporate bold colors into a room we never really are in too often.

The second dining room has an airier feel. Its much light in color and since the chairs are coral (a pretty bold color) you want the rug a nice neutral color so it doesnt take away from the chairs. A light blue as are the walls and drapes is a perfect partner for the bold chairs.

Have a wonderful meal in your dining rooms tomorrow!

A Sense of Scent

The Sense of Scent

Picking a perfume is extremely important. I think it says something about who you are and what kind of personality you have. I personally have a perfume for day, one for night and ones that can work for both. My favorite "day" perfume is Miss Dior Cherie and my favorite "night" perfume is Dolce & Gabbana "The One". My most versatile perfume is my newest addition, Chloe. I love switching up my scents according to my mood or outfit and they are a great way to add a little decor to your dresser or bathroom counter. Grab a perfume tray and arrange!

Easy Fall Centerpiece

Thanksgiving is right around the corner so I came up with an easy centerpiece for the dinner table or just for decor purposes.  Grab some acorns, and a festive colored candle (such as orange) and place them in a hurricane (the glass part on top of the candle stick). And voile! You have a perfectly fall themed centerpiece. You can also throw in easter colored M&Ms for spring or white and red mints for Christmas (coming soon!) Enjoy xo
